Each registered domain name has a minimum of two Name Server records that show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain address to the servers of a certain website hosting provider. In this way, you have got both your website and your emails handled by the exact same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are a number of other records, for example A and MX. The first one shows which server deals with the site for a given domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one shows which server handles the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For instance, whenever you type a domain address in your browser, your request is directed through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you will be forwarded to the servers of a different company if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having different records for the site and the emails means you could have your website and your e-mails with two different providers if you would like.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with our semi-dedicated plans, will enable you to view the A and MX records for every one of the domain addresses or subdomains in your account and if necessary, to edit any of them or create new ones. Controlling these records is quite easy as all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so updating a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes just a couple of more clicks and in case you experience any problems, you can check out our video tutorials on how to create A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by individuals with no previous experience, yet advanced enough to offer you total control of all records and to enable you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're pointing your e-mails to a different service provider and they ask you to set up more than two different MX records, you can select the priority of each one.
